Investment Counsel's History

For centuries the qualities that have given rise to successful accomplishment have not changed. Although technology may advance how success is derived, the traditions of experience, discipline, strength, perseverance and teamwork are why results are successful.

Investment Counsel, Inc. has adopted and practiced these traditions through the succession of generations. Each generation has brought new ideas, but always adhered to these practices.

Consistent Growth from Responsible Stewardship

Investment Counsel was founded just days before the historic stock market crash in October, 1929.

During our more than 75 years of existence, we have experienced wars, a depression, recessions, fads, numerous "bull" and "bear" markets and periods of great economic growth and prosperity. Throughout these changes, however, Investment Counsel has remained a stable and conservative steward to our clients and their wealth.

In 1929 E.E. “Eddy” MacCrone and Charles “Joe” Collins along with Ralph Badger, Ph.D., established Investment Counsel, Inc. The firm started in the Guardian Building n downtown Detroit, and later moved to their 40-year home in the Buhl Building. In 1930 Investment Counsel, Inc. first published the “Investment Letter”, which is still in publication today.

During Investment Counsel's early years our founders forged our investment philosophy, which pledges our devotion to preserving clients' purchasing power while conservatively growing their wealth over the long-term. Over the years we have executed this philosophy with a focus on quality securities identified via disciplined internal research. Our longevity and success is largely attributable to this continuing emphasis on quality.

Today, Investment Counsel provides guidance to families and institutions in the conservative stewardship of their investment portfolios through excellent personalized client service, tailored portfolio management, and a commitment to the highest quality research.
